Product Code: YG45753 Chitosan, a copolymer of β-(1,4)-linked D-glucosamine derived by deacetylation of natural chitin is chemically modified to produce glycol chitosan by introducing ethylene glycol groups mostly at position 6, which yields a hydrophilic polymer that is soluble in water and culture media at neutral pH. Glycol chitosan is non-cytotoxic and biocompatible and stimulates the growth of chondrocytes at low concentration. Glycol chitosan and a number of derivatives such as by adding cholesterol or folic acid to glycol chitosan yields self-assemblies that contain a hydrophobic core and a hydrophilic shell and these can be used for targeted drug delivery.
