Demissidine is found in significant concentration in unripe potato skins (as a glycoalkaloid). The alkaloid is reported to inhibit cholinesterase, disrupt cell membranes, and induce teratogenicity most probably indicating activity through inhibition of DNA topoisomerase II.
Demissidine has been shown to have DNA-modifying activities. In addition, when tested for antibacterial attributes, Demissidine showed activity against Staphylococcus aureus.
