Maritech Extraction Process

Low molecular Weight Fucoidans:

A key advantage of the Maritech™ extraction process is the ability to control the chemical properties of fucoidan.  Levels of sulphation, for example, are integral to fucoidan bioactivity, and Marinova’s process ensures that the high sulphation of natural fucoidan is maintained.

Another benefit of the process is the ability to control the molecular weight of fucoidan.  Marinova can provide low molecular weight fucoidan, standardised to 80% below 30,000 Pa, and high molecular weight fucoidan, standardised to 80% above 200,000 Pa.

Pharmaceutical Actives:

Using cold water extracted fucoidan as a starting material, Marinova has developed semi-characterised fractions for pharmaceutical research and development.

The fractionation of fucoidan can be based upon a variety of physical and chemical properties. Molecular weight can be altered, and a specific profile assigned to each particular product. Bulk characteristics such as sulphation and acetylation can also be controlled. Chemical modification of fucoidan can result in the production of novel saccharides with broad spectrums of biological activity.

Marinova has developed qualified analytical methodologies for fucoidan derivatives, acceptable to FDA requirements, and is a highly experienced partner for companies wishing to develop fucoidan-based products. We are currently developing actives for two North American pharmaceutical companies. Both products are in early stage trials.

Research Samples:

Marinova provides samples of various fucoidans for laboratory research. These can be provided in 1g, 5g, 10g, 50g, 100g or 200g quantities, depending on requirements.

All the fucoidans provided are extracted using the Maritech™ coldwater process used for our commercial fucoidans. A detailed specification, including a full molecular weight distribution analysis, are provided with each sample.
